Poetry: "The Rising Generation"

The Rising Generation

These children, born into a sheltered life
Their fathers overcome much strife
The sacrifice their fathers made
To see them grow up safe

These children, raised in peaceful bliss
Try to fight their father’s wish
Never forced to pull their weight
All work they’ve come to hate

The rising generation now has to sacrifice
Lessons that the fathers learned the sons are learning twice
When will these men and their children come to learn?
Each rising generation grows, trusts not his father’s word

These children look back with pained regret
Caught in humanity’s unseen net
Lessons learned by fathers past
They start to learn at last

The rising generation now has to sacrifice
Lessons that the fathers learned the sons are learning twice
When will these men and their children come to learn?
Each rising generation grows, trusts not his father’s word
